Shimla/Kullu: Heavy rain has been pouring in Himachal Pradesh, causing an orange alert to be issued. The rainfall has persisted in Shimla, the state capital, and other areas since Wednesday morning. The continuous rain has led to a significant drop in temperature, giving a December-like cold feeling even in late May. People in Shimla are still wearing sweaters and jackets. Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts have witnessed a change in weather patterns, which hasn’t been seen in three decades. Light rain has been observed in Kullu, while higher peaks like Rohtang Pass have received snowflakes. The continuous rain and snowfall have affected agricultural activities. Additionally, light snowfall was reported in the higher peaks of Kinnaur district on Wednesday morning.

Orange Alert for Heavy Rain, Hailstorm, and Thunderstorm Today


The Meteorological Center Shimla has issued an orange alert for heavy rain, hailstorm, and thunderstorm in several parts of the state. The rainfall and thunderstorm activity is expected to continue until June 4. The alert warns of heavy rain and hailstorm in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una districts in the next three hours.

 

Avalanche Near Kalaban on Bairagarh-Sachpas-Killar Road


In Chamba district, an avalanche occurred near Kalaban on the Bairagarh-Sachpas-Killar road. Fortunately, tourists narrowly escaped being hit by the avalanche. The incident has temporarily halted vehicle movement on the affected route.
