Mandi: A tourist visiting the Jogani Mata Temple in Mandi district found himself in a perilous situation when he intervened to stop fellow tourists from urinating near the temple premises. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, prompting the tourist to jump into a nearby ditch to protect himself. The incident took place under the cover of darkness, heightening the risk to his life.

Upon receiving the distress call, a prompt response team from the police post in Pandoh rushed to the scene. Their primary objective was to locate the tourist who had fallen into the ditch. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to find any trace of the individual. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the police team alerted the control room at the district headquarters and requested assistance from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The SDRF swiftly dispatched a specialized team to the location. Equipped with ropes and necessary rescue gear, the SDRF personnel descended into the ditch, carefully navigating the treacherous terrain. After a meticulous search operation, they managed to locate and extract the injured tourist, identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Dharam Singh from Ward 15 Shiv Colony in Jind, Haryana.

In addition to Rakesh Kumar, his three companions, Dinesh Kumar from Jind, Shubham from Haridwar, and Purushottam from Mohali, were also injured during the altercation. They received medical attention at Nerchowk Medical College, where Rakesh Kumar’s critical condition prompted a referral to the prestigious Chandigarh PGI for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the police post in Pandoh has registered a case against the unknown individuals involved in the scuffle. The investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and determine the circumstances that led to the altercation near Jogani Mata Temple.
