Baddi/Solan: Himachal Pradesh:  The Excise and taxation department authorities have seized contraband goods valued at over 25 lakhs at the Dherowal Nalagarh Baddi checkpoint. A substantial penalty of Rs 9.18 lakhs has been imposed, underscoring the state’s unwavering commitment to tackling tax evasion and illegal trade. A truck laden with goods identified as fatty palm acid, a crucial raw material for soap production, was inspected at the Dherowal Nalagarh Baddi checkpoint. The goods, valued at a staggering Rs 25,50,492, were purportedly consigned from Kutch, Gujarat, to Haridwar, Uttarakhand. However, a startling revelation occurred when the truck was found entering Nalagarh at Dherowal, deviating from its declared destination.

The enforcement team promptly detained both the goods and the vehicle for a thorough investigation. To further substantiate the discrepancy, it was discovered that the electronic way bill (E-way bill) had been declared from Kutch, Gujarat, to Haridwar, Uttarakhand, conflicting with the actual entry location.

The gravity of this illicit activity is underscored by the imposition of a substantial penalty amounting to a whopping Rs 9,18,180 under Section 129 of the GST Act. This penalty reflects the seriousness with which authorities are cracking down on tax evasion and the illegal movement of goods within the country.


Dy Commissioner State Taxes and Excise, BBN Revenue District, Baddi, Preetpaul Singh emphasized the importance of upholding the law and ensuring that businesses and individuals adhere to the regulations in place. He commended the swift action taken by the enforcement team and the invaluable work of Sh Pankaj Sood, AC, and Smt Krishna Devi, ASTEO, in preserving the integrity of the tax system.
