Lahaul-spiti, Himachal Pradesh: In an extraordinary feat, a couple recently secured a coveted place in the India Book of Records for organizing the “Longest Road Trip Wedding Expedition” in the stunning locales of Spiti’s Murang. The certificate was awarded to Arya Bura, hailing from Gujarat and currently residing in Mumbai, and her groom, Ranjit Srinivas, a business professional from Kerala based in Dubai.
The remarkable wedding, held in the freezing temperatures of minus 25 degrees, has become a subject of widespread discussion. Arya Bura, a solo traveler, had previously explored Spiti in her Thar named ‘Sherni’ in 2021 and 2023. Enamored by the region’s beauty, Arya and Ranjit, who were in a relationship for 13 years, decided to tie the knot in Spiti during their ring ceremony in Mumbai. The idea of a destination wedding in Spiti faced initial challenges when presenting it to their families. Ranjit’s business ties to Dubai, coupled with family preferences for weddings in Kerala and Gujarat, posed hurdles. However, Arya’s passion for Spiti prevailed, convincing both families to agree to the unique destination wedding.
Despite considering various locations, Arya and Ranjit chose Murang due to its pristine beauty and, more importantly, abundant snow. The couple aimed to complete all Hindu rituals on February 26, 2024, amidst the snow-covered landscapes. Arya, along with a wedding planner, took charge of all arrangements, creating a memorable event despite the light snowfall during the ceremony.
Expressing her joy, Arya remarked, “I am very happy that I started my life with the mountains that I love. Spiti is a very good location for a destination wedding. More people should also come here.”

Recognizing the significance of their achievement, Arya shared that the wedding has been registered as the longest destination wedding in the India Book of Records. The couple received a certificate from the India Book of Records team, acknowledging their unique feat.

The event was organized by Manpreet, the owner of the “Overlanding Rig” company in Chandigarh. The couple and their guests stayed at the “Social Courtyard” homestay in Rangrik village, enjoying the warm hospitality of the locals. Arya emphasized the potential for destination weddings in Spiti, encouraging other couples to explore its breathtaking landscapes.
While parents couldn’t attend due to the high altitude, Ranjit expressed his joy, stating, “This dream was of Arya Bura, which has been completed by coming here. I can’t express this happiness in words.” The couple hopes their story inspires more couples to choose the mesmerizing Spiti for their destination weddings.
