Solan/Baddi। Despite the stringent directives from the state government, the manufacturing of substandard medicines continues unabated in Himachal Pradesh. According to Central Drugs Standard Control Organization CDSCO recent findings, out of 676 samples of various medications collected nationwide in February, a staggering 58 were deemed substandard. Even more concerning is that 23 of these inferior medicines were produced within the boundaries of Himachal Pradesh itself. The compromised medications span a wide spectrum of ailments, ranging from common colds and coughs to critical conditions such as cancer.

Among the notable instances of substandard drugs are Aseptic pain medicine from Nexchem Biotech Company in Baddi, infection medicine Amoxilin from Laborate Pharma in Paonta, and Calcium and Vitamin D-3 from Hanuchem Laboratory in Parwanoo, to name a few.

Other medications found to be below the acceptable quality standards include anesthesia medicine Propofol Injection from Protech Telelinks in Kala Amb, cancer medicine LS Preganiz from Vita Drug in Kharuni, and bacterial infection injection Amikacin from Ronam Health Care. The list goes on to include various other drugs from different pharmaceutical companies across the state.

Confirming the alarming trend, Drug Controller Manish Kapoor issued a stern warning, stating that notices have been dispatched to the concerned companies, and immediate action will be taken to withdraw these substandard medicines from circulation. However, the persistent failure to adhere to quality standards raises questions about the efficacy of regulatory measures and the enforcement of health regulations in the pharmaceutical sector.

Furthermore, apart from the medicines produced within Himachal Pradesh, samples from companies such as Rachil Pharma, Biologics Inc. Company, Cestol Remedies, MC Pharmaceutical, Magma Allies Company, Secure Pharmaceutical Company, Bofin Biotech, Tirupati Medicare Limited, Span Formulation Company, and Roseate Medicare Company have also been flagged for failing to meet quality standards.

This alarming revelation underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of the regulatory framework governing drug manufacturing and distribution. It is imperative that stringent measures be put in place to ensure the production of safe and effective medications for the well-being of the populace.
